Ref. 6154 fetched world record auction result

by on Dez.15, 2012, under General

A very rare Ref. 6154 “Egiziano Piccolo” fetched the remarkable auction result of 326.500 US$ (including buyers premium), which set a new world record for a Vintage Panerai watch: LOT 268 on Christie’s Sale 2610 Important Watches (New York, December 14th, 2012).

This reference was produced by Panerai for the Egyptian Navy in 1954. The brown aged “Radiomir Panerai” dial and the 8 mm Rolex crown gives it an striking appearance. The reference 6154 is especially known for the flat shape of its 47 mm case.

Compared with the references 6152 and 6152/1, the 6154 is even more elegant and almost “streamlined” which gives it a special nickname in the Vintage Panerai world: “the Maserati amongst Ferraris”.

You can compare the different case shapes of 6152/1, 6152 and 6154 watches in our book “Vintage Panerai – The References”, chapter II / page 174-175. The Ref. 6154 is featured in chapter III of our book “Vintage Panerai – The References” (page 184-201) of which only a few copies are left in our stock.
